The Gift of Real Magic

I never knew much about magic until a few years ago.  There was always a calling toward it, an attraction that felt mutual, yet neither it nor myself were prepared to meet the other half way. So magic circled my existence whilst I settled with making birthday cake wishes and vision boards, in order to manifest my desires.

My journey into it was made longer, I’m sure, due to the fact I wasn’t motivated enough to dive in, knowing how deeply I wanted to swim and the dedication it might require.  It wasn’t tricks or sleight of hand that interested me. It wasn’t anything that came rooted in, or was dependant on, the ignorance of others; it was real magic. The type to set your heart ablaze when you realise how powerful you are.  Magic driven by unwavering belief systems, connection to nature and all the power therein. I wanted Harry Potter style magic, Marvel Universe worthy gifts and these, I understood, were as likely as flying to the moon.  Then one day I took part in a group astral projection to the moon and well, after that nothing seemed quite so out of reach.

The issue I have experienced with discussing the world of true magic is that people associate it with depictions they’ve seen in Hollywood movies, as I once did. The only difference being they lean more naturally toward its association with darkness, malevolent spirits and vengeful, often careless people. They have fallen, ironically, for the biggest trick of all; that there is little or no light within the world of deep magic, no sacredness or divine power involved. Whether the culprit is religion or social conditioning, many human beings find it easier to believe their souls are utterly unprotected and open to a whole host of entities waiting to possess them. There is no inherent personal power their mind naturally gravitates toward and the mentality of victimhood appears far more readily. Many fail to grasp, that as what you fear in life only grows, the same too is true of magic. It is that fear which will destroy you, faster than any external force ever could.

This propensity of thought focusing on what can go wrong is a subject which deserves discussion, simply because it is the most frequent topic raised by people I know.  It is important to acknowledge the fear, as much as it is to also convey the beauty available.

What is your intention?

In studying magic with intention, I have unleashed another dimension of my own powers. Working with magic is deeply satisfying; connecting with angels and the spirit world can be both a gentle process and an invigorating experience.  There are many ways you too can embark on your journey into this world.  Personally, I am not one for rigid rules or dogmatic approaches to this tradition or that.  It is not who I am, or indeed what I am here to teach and I believe magic, like any other practice, should feel like a perfect fit to your authentic self. My personal love, is chaos magic.

Chao magic, aside from sounding utterly compelling, draws from multiple disciplines, traditions, countries and systems; as well as the breadth of one’s own knowledge and imagination. Chaos magic is an act of belief; the magic of complete belief and the complete belief of magic. There are practices that beautifully and gently separate certain people from your life, or bring objects of desire closer to you.  There are sigils, words of power, candle workings and simple routine rituals that can have a massive impact on one’s life.  This, is the magic of whatever already lives within your heart, positive or negative.  It is an amplifier of who you are at your core and so, if you are unsure who that is then no, it is not for you.

If you already know yourself, your guides, what a protected and sacred being you are, then this magic can truly become a way of life. It is a resource, like any other, that is as safe as the boundaries and intentions you approach it with. It is important to make conscious decisions to be ruled by those, not your fears.
