There are people in your walk through life, who must stand out.
They will appear to you as if by design, fertiliser to be sprinkled onto the soil of your consciousness. They will arrive wild and alone, determined to grow, to flourish in your psyche with or without consent. And they will not fit any discernible way into the world you recognise. They are the working class couple in the resort reserved for the super wealthy. They are the family in the restaurant who sit silently across from you, a quiet and undecipherable force of either peace or rage swimming amongst them.
A conditioning is signalling here; prejudices or assumptions to be realised and undone, sometimes coiled tighter.
There is a school of thought that believes in ‘background people’. These are the extras on the filmset of our lives, individuals cast at random with the sole purpose to fill space, to secure balance in a matrix that must be evenly weighted.
In addition, I like to think too that there exists another cast of wanderers, known perhaps as inbetweeners. Rather than a channel for the resistance we need to thrive, they are the mirror through which we see ourselves.
They are the ones who show us the cracks in our thinking, the spaces we ourselves fill without question, where we layer ink into lines now requesting to be defined anew.
The inbetweeners challenge us to become a likeness to the vision we hold of ourselves, the us on our calmest and most reasonable of days, perhaps at the end of our time here, perhaps when our judgement day comes.
They are the excavation of that dried ink, the chance to pour colour into the lines we have drawn and encircled around our selves. These people are the gift, they are the lessons, teachers of what we have ignored, the truths we have taken for granted.
When these people appear to capture our attention, a less evolved soul will look for confirmation of what they know already to be true, thereby sinking deeper into old versions of themselves. A courtesan of growth will ask always to be changed, to receive new knowledge, no matter the shame found in prior thought.
Inbetweeners are the sun ray that shines on surfaces we did not know needed illumination. Surfaces, that for all their plainness, their one dimensionality in our lives, seize the moment to attest to a better way, to another choice.
Watch out for their glow.
If you can, investigate it, befriend it, open your heart in the places it has been shuttered.
Even if only for a moment, look within your matrix for the anomaly that should not be there. Believe indeed that it is supposed to be there. Believe that it has come, specifically for you.
